Assessment Process


Best Companies Group conducts a simple yet thorough company assessment designed to gather detailed information about your workplace. Employers will complete an in-depth questionnaire and employees will have the opportunity to offer their honest feedback by taking part in a company-wide survey. Both portions of the assessment must be complete in order to be considered for the “best” list.

Once both portions of the assessment are complete, we’ll analyze the data to determine if your organization has what it takes to be the “best.” From there, we’ll use the data to rank each participating organization and send you the Employee Feedback Report detailing the information submitted, including how your company compares to the other participants.

Your company is responsible for completing the Employer Benefits & Policies Questionnaire (worth 25% of the overall score) where you’ll tell us more about company policies, practices, and demographics. The EQ will be sent shortly following the registration deadline. Please see the Timeline for more information regarding program dates.

We will send the employer questionnaire electronically to the primary contact which can be completed and submitted entirely online.

Employee Engagement & Satisfaction Survey

The Employee Engagement & Satisfaction Survey consists of approximately seventy-eight (78) statements that employees respond to along with two (2) open-ended and seven (7) demographic questions. This survey makes up the other 75% of the overall score.

We’ll analyze and categorize the results according to eight (8) Core Focus Areas:

  1. Leadership and Planning
  2. Corporate Culture and Communications
  3. Role Satisfaction
  4. Work Environment
  5. Relationship with Supervisor
  6. Training, Development and Resources
  7. Pay and Benefits
  8. Overall Engagement

Online vs. Paper

Online vs. Paper

You’ll have the option to survey all employees via an online or a paper method. (Only one method per company, please!) We offer additional services to help you get the most out of the process, including customized and alternate language surveys. (See Survey Set Up for all available options.)

Returning this year: New option for the online employee survey process. To better accommodate organizations that do not have email addresses for all employees, we have increased the number of access codes that each participating organization may request (up to 50% of population).

We can conduct your survey in the following methods:

1. Online – If you choose to survey employees electronically, you’ll submit a list of company email addresses for all eligible employees through our Email Upload Portal. Surveys will be sent via email containing a unique link created for each individual employee. (If an employee does not have a company email address, we can send surveys to personal email addresses – yahoo, gmail, Hotmail, etc – but will not be able to troubleshoot should the survey get caught in a spam filter.) 100% of your employees must have email.

2. Online – Combination of email addresses and access codes. If up to 50% of your employees are without email addresses we can conduct the survey using a combination of email and access codes for survey completion. What is an access code?

3. Paper – If you select to survey employees via paper, a package of survey materials will be mailed to you including: a letter from BCG, your employee surveys, and postage-paid return envelopes. We ask that the surveys are distributed upon arrival and that employees are free to complete and mail the surveys individually as they wish. Organizations selecting the paper option will also be required to complete an Employee Eligibility Checklist.

(1) Fees are non-refundable. (2) To ensure the credibility of the information, companies with 15-24 employees must have an 80% (or better) response rate on the employee survey to be considered for the list. (3) Employees are randomly selected. Best Companies Group offers the option to survey more employees than the random sample calculated in the above chart, and/or include additional employees in the survey process who work in locations outside of the program area.
